akie bermiss is affable, near-sighted, hirsute, and a nerd of the highest water. But he has also somehow managed to cultivate and live a double-life as a thriving music protégé, pianist, singer/songwriter, composer, arranger, and an emerging solo artist.
Of course, if you’re not from Brooklyn, NY, you may not have heard of him yet. Perhaps, lately, you’ve seen him on the road with Lake Street Dive in the last year or so. He recently joined the indie-pop band, adding a bit of his quirky je ne sais quoi to their incredible popular je ne sais quoi – creating a whole of lot of sweet confusion and vexingly awesome music. He can be heard on the band’s most recent record, Free YourSelf Up – out now on Nonesuch Records.
Otherwise, akie spends his time touring as a solo artist (sometimes alone, sometimes with his trio: the abT!) singing his notorious “alien love songs” and bring a particularly distinctive brand of acoustic soul to audiences across the country. He continues to tour wit Lake Street Dive through out the winter of 2018 and is working on both an epic double album of the complete Alien Love Songs, and an EP of slightly less esoteric songs.
