July’s installment of “Inside Voices” will be a send-off for Twin Cities spoken word artist Bernard Ferguson. Bernard has been a pivotal force in the achievement of Button Poetry events. While we are sad to see him go, we wish him the best on this next chapter in his life pursuing an MFA degree at New York University!
About the feature: Bernard is a Bahamian poet living in Uptown, Minneapolis. He is a 2017 Pushcart Prize nominee and has had work published in numerous journals and anthologies, including the Best New Poets 2017 anthology. In Fall 2018, Bernard will move to New York to pursue his MFA at NYU, where he has been awarded a Writers in the Schools fellowship. Unfortunately, his most pressing goal is to convince you that fall is a god-awful season. He wants you to, instead, consider spring and the green buds growing on the trees of Minnesota. He wants you to consider the tapestry coming back to life.
Opening performances from Saymoukda Vongsay, Keno Evol and Ry Irene. With musical guest: Laura Hugo Music.
Inside Voices is a poetry showcase series that allows for the audience to encounter artists in a more intimate setting. Artists with exploratory work who may perform outside of the traditional setting of slam are a part of this installment. Inside Voices exists to highlight work that is more intentionally experimental and reflective while allowing space for the quieter emotions, for a more complex perspective.
